Post Gastric Band Fitness

In order to maintain healthy weight loss results after you have had a gastric  band procedure, you will need to take the aftercare process extremely seriously. 

By making simple lifestyle changes towards your diet and exercise routines you can maintain a healthy shape for the foreseeable future. It’s important to note, that as your meal sizes have decreased in size, every bite counts and so each meal should be packed with the right nutrients.

Is it physical or emotional hunger?

 

A weight loss  cosmetic surgery procedure is hugely successful at regulating hunger pains. Nevertheless, it can still be very difficult to differentiate between physical and emotional hunger pains.

What is emotional hunger?

Emotional hunger is when people develop an appetite and use food as a way to deal with their emotional problems rather than satisfy actual hunger. This could be down to many factors, such as monotony, pleasure, unhappiness, loneliness and angerin a person’s everyday life.

Psychologically, these hunger pains can be difficult to alter and can take a while to figure out. With this in mind it’s important that you understand the emotional attachment you have with food.

Break the habit

 

After all, we are creatures of habit and some people can develop a custom for emotional eating – like eating whilst watching television, purchasing unhealthy takeaways after work or even finishing off the meals that their kids are unable to eat.

Such eating routines are extremely hard to stop and it’s crucial that you recognise these eating habits and learn to avoid snacking during riskytimes of the day.

You may find it helpful to write down a list of all the different types of foods  you are guilty of  snacking on and the times in which you at most at risk of eating them. By replacing these foods with healthier alternatives during specific times of the day that you feel you are most vulnerable can really help you avoid putting on the weight you’ve lost through surgery.

Eating Advice

 

Throughout the initial four weeks after the gastric band procedure it’s advised that you do not eat any solids. The reason for this is simple. Solid foods can cause extreme pressure to build around the surgical stiches and therefore displace the gastric band, affecting the results of the procedure.

With this in mind, it is advised that you stick to a liquid diet and progress to small portions of solid food after four weeks.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle after your gastric band procedure is really important for you to maintain your new weight loss results. By making small changes to your diet and having regular exercise you can ensure that your new found figure is maintained now and for the foreseeable future.
